Notes:

1.  This calculator will tell you how much fabric is needed for a design where the stitch count is known.  Many designers, like Pegasus, will tell you the stitch count so you can work on any fabric you like.

2.  What if you want to switch from 16 count to 14 count and the pattern sizes is given in inches instead of in stitches?  See  Tip 4 on how to do the math for this.

3.  How much fabric is needed to go around the average design?  The usual recommendation is at least 3" all around.  If you want to custom frame the design a good bit larger, then add more.

4.  What if the recommended fabric size is smaller than the needlework frame I have?  If you have a rather large scroll frame or QSnap for a small design, you'll want to have enough fabric to comfortably fit and maintain proper tension..  In this case, raise the amount of fabric you're adding all around until you see a fabric size that you know will fit the frame.  You can cut the excess off before making the finished piece, whether framed or a pillow.
