.   The chart below helps you determine how many knots, 1/8 or 1/4 pound units you will need, whether your pattern calls for ounces, skeins, or yards

Weight measurement Equivalent Length measurement
1 strand = 30" piece of yarn Under 1 yard
  1 knot = 10 strands precut

skein= 8  yds 
1/8 lb = 9+ knots, (2 oz.) About 75 yds = 9+ packaged skeins
1/4 lb = 18-19 knots, (4 oz) About 150 yds
. 1 lb = 75 knots About 600 yds.
