We've finally stabilized and have the business on sound
footing. But personal circumstances have changed and it's
time to give discountneedlework a new home.
We sell 3 major categories, but focus on needlepoint
supplies. Runners up are silk ribbon and cross stitch (at
a distant third). Most of our business is in bulk
products- yarn and canvas - that is hard to find on the
internet. We do not compete with online cross stitch shops
that are everywhere. We also do brisk business in lamps,
magnifiers, frames, and other accessories.
The website has been in existence for a very long time and
has a good reputation. Most of it is highly
automated. The family with one high-tech and one
high-touch person would be ideally suited for running this
operation, which is how we have run it for years. Judy was in
charge of the yarn and supplies part and Catherine took care of
website design, updates, marketing, etc. You have to be
able to do some of this yourself to make the business
work. Hiring people to manage all your web presence can
get expensive.
Without going into confidential details online, we can tell
you that the business has always been profitable, ideal for a
modest 2d income or stay-at-home Mom. To be honest, you
cannot support a family on the business as it is currently
structured and operated. Also bear in mind that if you like to
travel, this business is not for you. The customers expect
orders to ship pretty much every day the post office is
open. They are not very tolerant of delays caused by
personal vacations. If you travel, be prepared to spend
some of your income on part -time help. It takes less than
40 hours a week to do all aspects of the business as it
currently operates, such routine accounting, emailing customers,
placing orders, shipping orders, handling returns. Taxes and
such take extra time.
Included in the sale price will be all current inventory (a
complete inventory will be provided upon sale), the website (all
registrations current), the 1-800 number (it's been the same for
years and years), the email address, all marketing materials
(the automated email responders that send articles and
information to customers), and all accounts.
The business is currently a corporation, but we may keep the
corporation for another purpose and just sell the assets listed
above.

We are continuing our canvas sale to get rid of some of our
older canvases. As part of putting this business up for
sale, we will need to reduce the amount of expensive handpainted
canvas that we stock. Some have sold out but there are
still plenty available.
These sale canvases make great gifts if you're on a
budget. Needlepoint can be an expensive hobby - help take
a bite out of the cost with our HUGE needlepoint sale.
