Special Needlepoint Offer

It's rare that we put a special product offer in our newsletter when there's only one available.  But this one is pretty special.  We ended up with a mismatched set of chair cushions handpainted by the artists at Betty Smith. There are 3 painted on 14 mesh and 1 painted on 13 mesh.  It's almost impossible to tell the difference, but we can't sell them as a matched set of 4.  The design is about 10" but the canvas is extra large (27" square) to allow the design to be used on a dining room chair.  This is the same sizing that appears on our preworked canvases from China (10" design and 27" background) but you work the whole thing yourself.  Additionally, instead of being on 10/20 penelope canvas, the design is on 13 mesh  mono canvas, which will give you excellent detail.   Additionally, 13 mesh canvas is perfect for persian Paternayan wool which is more readily available than tapestry wool normally used on chairs.  These high quality hand painted canvases would normally retail somewhere around $400 for the set, which is close to double the price for the preworked designs..  Even at our regularly discounted prices, we would expect to sell these for $320.

Our holiday gift to one lucky customer - buy the entire set of 4 canvases for $120.  Yes, you read it right - 4 handpainted full sized chair covers for just $30 each.  You couldn't hardly buy the blank canvas for that!  This represents almost 75% off the regular retail price.  What a great gift for someone special in your family.

Our website does NOT update inventory automatically, so even if you are able to order this item, it may have sold earlier in the day.  Think of this rather like a silent auction - it may take you a few hours to learn if you are the lucky person.  We cannot ship until about October 18 as we're waiting for the items to get to us.

If you're disappointed at not getting this item, keep checking.  As we approach inventory time, we'll be trying to clear outother slow selling items.

New Article on Organizing Threads

We've had so much interest in our articles on choosing lamps and lap frames, we know you appreciate our effort in studying the wide range of available products.

Lately we've been getting a lot of questions about thread organizing systems that we sell.  Home magazines seem to be focusing on organizing the home office or project area.  So we thought the time was right to really dig deep into the systems available for organizing your threads.  Use this article as an incentive to get your holiday projects under control, or perhaps to choose the products you would like to receive as a holiday gift.

 Silk Ribbon suggestions
Silk ribbon embroidery is gorgeous by itself, but think what you can do mixing it with other forms of needlework!

Here are some of our ideas you can try:

  • Use Mill Hill beads to create beads of dew, seeds, flower centers, or other texture on your floral designs
  • Use traditional embroidery or crewel embroidery stitches to form a vase and then fill with your favorite silk ribbon flowers and leaves.  Add delicate tendrils with cotton floss.
  • Try silk floss to anchor some of the more difficult silk ribbon designs.  The floss is incredibly fine and will blend into your ribbon embroidery almost invisibly.
  • For christmas gifts, buy some ready made pieces that can quickly decorated with ribbon embroidery for a personalized gift that won't break the bank!  We like the Framecraft porcelain boxes, but you could use the same concept and make Christmas ornaments with poinsettas and other holiday designs in a 2-3" frame that can be hung from the tree.
