The chart above describes how many plies to use, and the longest recommended thread length (all our thread is cut to 30" if you buy knots or 1/8 pounds)
Generally, allow 1 yard of yarn for each square inch of canvas. Remember, to determine how many square inches you have, measure 2 sides of the area to be covered, in inches, and multiply them together. This gives you square inches. If you need to cover 72 square inches, you need 72 yards of yarn, give or take.
(Then use our table in Tip 1 to convert the total yards to knots for ordering; 8 yds per knot=9 knots or 1/8 pound for 72 square inches.)
Our smallest order quantity is one knot, so just order 1 knot for accent colors. And at our prices, feel free to order 1/8 pound even if you're not exactly sure you need that much. Once you cross about 7 knots, the others are essentially free if you buy 1/8 pound. (We save by not having to separate all that yarn, and pass the savings on to you)
