Tip 9 - Using the thread converter
at www.discountneedlework.com

At www.discountneedlework.com, we  have a great online tool for converting various thread colors from one brand to another.  But it isn't perfect.  Used properly, this tool can really speed things up, especially for unusual conversions for which paper charts are hard to come by.  Don't forget to try the audio lesson on the converter page.  But if it still didn't help, here are some common questions and their answers:.

Problem Solution
I typed several color numbers into the boxes but it doesn't look like they all converted You can convert only ONE color number at a time.  Write it down, the convert the next one.
I don't know my color number, but I know its a light brown Try typing brown in the DMC color name box - you'll get a lot more choices than you need, but perhaps you can work from that.  NOTE:  if your color is actually "Desert Sand" this method won't help.  ALSO make sure to select "Partial Match" to get "light brown" "dark brown" etc.
I get a funny error message  that starts "Microsoft Access ..." There is a problem in the converter tool.  Send us a an email, please so we can fix it
When I type my color number in, I get a message saying the thread isn't in the database Each thread brand has certain naming rules.  Splendor always starts with an S (e.g. S844).  Appleton has numbers, a period and more numbers (e.g. 119.44)  For best results, use the exact number on the thread package or called for in your pattern.
I want to convert  to Paternayan but it always comes up as DMC Look again.  We can't rearrange the order of the columns, so the row always starts with DMC. Everything is on the chart in the same order each time.
I always want to convert the same threads and this method is kind of slow.  Isn't there a better way?  You may prefer using a  paper chart  if you always convert common threads (like DMC to Anchor).  There are several printable paper charts available on the internet.
